Face of Consumption

$750.00

Considering the social and psychological affect of tropes projected onto black women, this project explores the “unruly woman”, the “resentful woman”, and the “angry woman”. Mocking the consumption of her body, the artist reclaims a multi-dimensionality often refused by a public gaze. Exacerbating these tropes, the artist uses magazine advertisements paper mache’d to an all-white face mask, a Starbucks apron, googly eyes, red solo cups , wide tooth comb, hair clips, and background art by Nyama.

By Artist: Nina Riley

Print, 16" x 20"
