Dook'o'oosłííd (Yellowshell Mountain), Artist: 4KINSHIP

$2,400.00

An upcycled dress created out of hand-dyed netting from the ocean clean-up organization Ghost Diving, sewn together with abalone embellishments by many hands of the 4KINSHIP community, a Diné woman-run Indigenous Arts Organization and upcycled artwear brand.

In Diné tradition it is understood that the western mountain,  Dook'o'oosłííd (San Francisco Peaks) was made on a abalone blanket, soil from Dook'o'oosłííd and pieces of abalone were brought from the Third World into the current, Fourth World. They dressed and decorated this mountain with abalone shell to create understanding of our social unity and life (Iina). San Francisco peaks were anchored with sunbeams and the mountain was covered with a blanket of yellow cloud. The San Francisco Peaks is where the sun sets, so it is understood as “The Mountain that Reflects”.

Materials: Hand-dyed fishing net from Ghost Diving, with hand-sewn abalone
